BMES includes members from all levels of the profession:

Fellow
$250

Fellow status is awarded to Society members who demonstrate exceptional achievements and experience in the field of biomedical engineering, with a record of membership and participation in the Society. Applications for new nominees are accepted each year, and a new class of fellows is inducted during the annual meeting. A portion of a fellow’s annual dues funds BMES student awards and other Society activities.

Candidates must be proficient in biomedical engineering and must meet the requirements in one of the following sections:

Level 1 --BS in BME/BE or related Engineering Field w/BME/BE emphasis with 2 yrs. work experience in the BME/BE field

Level 2 --MS in BME/BE or related Engineering Field w/BME/BE emphasis with 1 yr. work experience in the BME/BE field

Level 3 --PhD, MD, DDS, DVM in BME/BE or related Engineering Field w/BME/BE emphasis

Level 4 --BS in Natural Sciences or Engineering Field w/o BME/BE emphasis with 3 yrs. work experience in the BME/BE field

Level 5 --MS in Natural Sciences or Engineering Field w/o BME/BE emphasis with 2 yrs. work experience in the BME/BE field

Level 6 --PhD, MD, DDS, DVM in Natural Sciences or Engineering Field w/o BME/BE emphasis with 1 yr. work experience in the BME/BE field

Level 7 --BS in field other than Natural Sciences or Engineering with 4 yrs. work experience in the BME/BE field

Level 8 --No Degree - Minimum 6 yrs. work experience in the BME/BE field


Affiliate

Affiliate membership is available to those individuals who have an interest in serving the Society membership through professional services and support products; including but not limited to patent attorneys, resume writing services, translation services, laboratory equipment and support products, but do not qualify for the Fellow or Member categories.


Early Career
$80


The early-career membership is available to candidates who received a degree in biomedical engineering or a related science within three years of the date of application. Applicants must provide the name of the last university attended and year of graduation.


Student
$30


Applicants currently enrolled as a full-time student pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in biomedical engineering or a related science may be admitted to student membership. New and renewing student applicants must provide a current student ID# and expected year of graduation.


Corresponding
$25

 
Corresponding membership is recommended for an individual with an avid interest in the biomedical field - who does not hold and/or is not pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in biomedical engineering or related sciences; and is not employed by a corporation engaged in BME, and is not seeking to provide professional and support services to the membership. In general, they must not meet the criteria for any other category of BMES membership. Recommended for high school students, primary and secondary school teachers, and family.
