AWARDS
The Biomedical Engineering Society offers several awards to recognize outstanding contributions to biomedical engineering and to BMES. The Society also supports student and student chapters.
Award Spotlight
Bill Hawkins assumed the role of chief executive officer of Medtronic Inc. in August 2007 and became chair of the board in August 2008. He was named president and chief operating officer in May 2004 after joining Medtronic as senior vice president and president of Medtronic's vascular business in January 2002.
Bill joined Medtronic from Novoste Corp., where he had been president and chief executive officer since 1998. Previous positions included corporate vice president and president of the Sherwood Davis
BMES Awards
BMES presents a number of prestigious awards each year to advanced and new researchers, students, and graduate students. These include:
The Pritzker Distinguished Lectureship is awarded each year to an individual to recognize outstanding achievements and leadership in the science and practice of biomedical engineering.
The BMES Distinguished Achievement Award is awarded each year to a company, charitable foundation, or nonacademic institution that has made great contributions to the field of biomedical engineering.
The BMES Distinguished Service Award is presented periodically to recognize members who have made extraordinary contributions to the Society.
The Rita Schaffer Young Investigator Award is offered to stimulate research careers in biomedical engineering.
The BMES Diversity Award honors an individual, project, organization, or institution for outstanding contributions to improving gender and racial diversity in biomedical engineering.

May 31, 2010 — Deadline for nominations for the the Pritzker Distinguished Lectureship, Distinguished Achievement Award, Distinguished Service Award, Diversity, and Rita Schaffer Young Investigator Award.
June 1, 2010 - Deadline for Chapter Meritorous, and Graduate & Undergraduate Researc& Design Awards
September 4, 2010 — Deadline to apply for Student Travel awards.
