Student Chapter Meritorious Achievement Awards
Deadline - June 15th
Chapter Development Report
The Chapter Development Report is due each year by June 15th, and is optional. Student chapters may submit a Chapter Development Report in order to be considered for the chapter Awards. The report should be emailed to regina@bmes.org the format can be PDF, and in the subject line “Student Chapter Development Report.
The report should cover the period June 1st to May 3st of each year.
There are four Student Chapter awards category:
Meritorious Achievement Awards
Commendable Achivement Awards
Mentoring Program Awards
Outreach Program Awards
There is a possibility that some schools might expressly prohibit an activity outlined in the requirements. In such a case, the Faculty Advisor or chapter President should submit a letter stating the circumstances along with a copy of the university regulation, which prohibits the activity. A substitute activity may be used.
To be competitive for Meritorious Achievement Awards, it is expected that chapters qualify in all five major sections of the Chapter Development Report and present evidence that they have made significant and unusual progress. Also if any activities related to Mentoring and/or Outreach Program took place please make note of it in the report.
The material in each item should clearly indicate that the chapter has gone beyond the minimum to satisfy the requirement and has made a contribution to biomedical engineering education and the profession.
Formatting Requirements
The detailed qualifications and requirements for the Chapter Development Report appear below. In preparing the report, the following general rules should be followed:
- The report should contain the chapter name, number and address on the cover.
- All pages should be typed single-spaced and numbered.
- The report should be proofread before being submitted.

Chapter Development Report Requirements

Section I. Administration
1. Constitution
Requirements: Each chapter should have its own Constitution on file with its Secretary.
Supporting Evidence: Include the latest copy of the chapter’s Constitution in the binder.
2. Roster of Membership
Requirements: Each chapter should provide a roster of its members with addresses and telephone numbers to its members. A revised copy should be provided to the membership each semester or quarter.
Supporting Evidence: Include in the Chapter Development Report a copy of the membership roster with all required information.
3. Officer and Committee Appointments
Requirements: Submit a list or chart showing the Executive Committee (officers) and functioning committees, including names, mailing addresses, and telephone numbers. A copy should be distributed to every chapter member.
Supporting Evidence: Insert a copy of the list in the Chapter Development Report binder.
4. Executive Committee Meetings
Requirements: Evidence that the chapter Executive Committee meetings were held at least four times per academic year.
Supporting Evidence: Include in the Chapter Development Report a copy of the agenda of all meetings and the minutes of those meetings.
5. Chapter Financial Statement
Requirements: Submit evidence that the chapter operates on a sound financial basis. Supporting Evidence: Include copies of financial statements.

BMES Student Travel Award
Deadline September 5th
This award first presented in 1992 with the Whitaker Foundation Funds raised by the annual meeting chair and/or BMES President of the Board. Its goal is to promote BMES membership and involvement of local chapters.
Conditions:
- The student must be a BMES Member (in Good standing)
- The student must be a BMES student chapter member (the chapter must be in good standing)
- Application sumission
- Letter from a professor, and/or advisor familiar with the student's work, conveying why she/he thinks the student deserve this financial assistance.
The goal is to provide assistance to one student per chapter, minimum. Offering the opportunity participate in the BMES annual meeting. The award consist of a check for $300, and a complimentary full meeting registration.

Did You Know about FASEB MARC Awards Program?
The FASEB MARC Program provides funding to support the participation of faculty/mentors and students, and poster/platform (oral) presenters at selected scientific meetings and conferences. For eligibility and requirements, click on the “Travel Awards” tab on the FASEB MARC home page. For travel award applications, click on the “Travel Awards” Scientific Meetings & Conferences” tab. The FASEB MARC awards help to defray meeting registration and travel-related expenses (lodging, transportation, per diem) associated with meeting/conference attendance. Travel awards are processed as reimbursements to the award recipients. Recipients are required to pay his/her meeting- and travel-related expenses first, and then request reimbursement from the FASEB MARC Program Office after completion of the meeting/conference. The deadline to apply for the FASEB MARC Awards is September 1, 2011.

BMES Fleetest Feet Awards
Deadline January 31, 2012.
The award was founded in 1992, in order to promote an expand student participation in the BMES Annual Meeting. It is given to the student chapter that brings the most chapter members to the annual meeting. The award is given to the student chapter that has traveled the most miles to attend.
Conditions:
- In the application list all the students that traveled and the miles they traveled.
- Total the mileage is calculated by the number of miles traveled (one way), multiplied by the number of BMES Students chapter members in attendance from the particular univeristy/chapter. Distance will be determined"as the crowflies" by representatives attending the annual meeting. (BMES staff will check for proof of attendance at the meeting).
- 10% bonus miles will be granted to the chapter that drives to the annual meeting instead of flying.
- The number for calculation are obtained by using a standart map, straight edge, and writing utensil. A line is drawn from the Chapter's universiry location to the host's city. The line is then measured and multiplied by the map's scale to determine the official mileage.
- The host school is excempt for the competition.
- The student chapterstatus must be in good standing.
Presentation of the award is at the following year's BMES Business Meeting, that takes place at the annual meeting. The award consist in a plaque. The name of the winner chapter is also engrave in a larger plaque which cointain dates and names of chapter winners since 1992, this plaque is located at BMES conference room.
