BMES Now Accepting Nominations for 2010 Awards

March 18, 2010...The Biomedical Engineering Society has opened the nominating process for its 2010 BMES Awards, many of which will be given in October at the BMES Annual Meeting in Austin, Texas.  Edward Schilling, Executive Director of BMES, announced today that nomination criteria and application forms are now available in the Awards section of the organization's web site at: http://www.bmes.org/aws/BMES/pt/sp/awards

Each year the Society gives five major awards, considered some of the most prestigious in the profession.  According to Schilling, these recognize both advanced and new researchers, students and graduate students, and organizations and individuals who advance Biomedical Engineering (BME).  Awards include:

  • The Pritzker Distinguished Lecturer (2011), which recognizes a BMES member's outstanding, achievements and leadership in the science and practice of biomedical engineering.
  • The Distinguished Achievement Award, given for organizational or individual contributions or advancements to the field of BME.
  • The Rita Schaffer Young Investigator Award, which intends to stimulate research careers in biomedical engineering for BMES members who are within five years of receiving their highest degree.
  • The Distinguished Service Award, which is awarded for meritorious Society service to a BMES member.
  • And the Diversity Award, developed to honors an individual, project, organization, or institution for outstanding contributions to improving gender and racial diversity in Biomedical Engineering.

The deadline for submission is May 31, 2010.
